Club will host open mic event
Those looking for an opportunity to share a talent, a message or an act are invited to the University of Hawaii Maui College Music Club Open Mic at 5 p.m. Thursday at the campus Multipurpose Room in the Pilina Building.
The open mic will kick off with a performance by traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music group Kuikawa. A keiki ensemble from Maui Music Mission in West Maui will also perform.
UH-Maui College’s Institute for Hawaiian Music students, faculty and students from performing arts classes, as well as members of the music club, are also expected to share performances. Some games and crafts for the keiki will also be available.
The open mic is the culminating activity for UH-Maui College’s International Festival, celebrating the college’s inclusiveness and diversity in culture, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Various events are scheduled throughout the day, such as a parade of flags, Japanese obon and K-pop dances, Chinese Dizi and Erhu performances, an ukulele workshop and learning Spanish songs.
An ethnic food sampling is also scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Multipurpose Room.
The International Festival is presented by the UH-Maui College International Education Committee, International Club of Maui and Maui Language Institute.
