Molokai High School’s VEX Robotics team wins 2017 Maui VEX Tournament
Molokai High School’s VEX Robotics Team won the 2017 Maui VEX Robotics Tournament on Oct. 21, according to a news release. The competition consisted of teams from Oahu, Maui and Molokai.
The winning team was made up of students Cobra Curtis, Evelyn Haase, Ilima Kaawa-Richardson, Kamalu Kaawa-Richardson, Makani Davis, Maria Angst and Randal Cabreros.
Molokai Farmers Team 1037B went 9-0 in the elimination rounds, placing it as the No. 1 seed out of 28 teams. Team 1037A went 5-3-1, landing it as ninth seed, and Team 1037C went 4-5, good for the 17th seed.
Team 1037B along with its alliance teams 1037A and 42700A (St. Louis School) advanced through the quarter- and semifinals, winning two matches to none against each opposing alliance.
In the finals, it faced off against teams from Mililani, Waipahu and King Kekaulike high schools.
The final round ended 82 points to 80 in a highly competitive match.
Molokai Farmers Team 1037A also won the Skills Championship portion of the event with a score of 102 points, with 1037B coming in second with a score of 82 points.
Both Molokai High Teams 1037A and 1037B are now qualified for the 2018 Hawaii State VEX Championship and the 2018 Create US Open Championship.
