Camp will offer therapeutic adaptive recreation activities

Maui-based nonprofit Never Give Up conducted an informational event Nov. 9 about its Camp Can Do Maui project in Olowalu. This future camp facility will be completely wheelchair accessible and barrier-free.

Never Give Up President Ron Heagy told the audience about his own personal struggles and how he overcame them. He was paralyzed from the neck down at age 18, and now travels the country urging those facing similar challenges not to allow their circumstances to affect their goals.

While on Maui, Heagy spoke at King Kamehameha III Elementary, Kahului Elementary, Kalama Intermediate, Maui Preparatory Academy, Sacred Heart Academy, Lahaina Intermediate and Lahainaluna High schools.

The future Camp Can Do Maui facility will be on 5 acres of land.

Therapeutic adaptive recreation activities designed for those with physical mobility impairments will be available, such as, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking with off-road wheelchairs and zip lining. For more information, visit www.campcandomaui.org.
