Kihei student effort yields 1,529 food items
The Kihei Elementary School Student Council held a Food Drive for the Maui Food Bank between Nov. 6 and 17. Students were encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to support the drive.
Grade-level bins for collection were located in the cafeteria, and teachers and students logged their daily donations on the collection sheets.
The class during each lunch period with the most donated food items received a Jamba Juice and healthy snack party during the morning recess.
The drive resulted in 1,529 items collected. Lawrence Schumacher’s 4th-grade class collected 158 items and Marygrace Manglicmot’s 2nd-grade class collected 113 items. These classes were named the winners of the collection drive for their lunch period.
