‘Food Sovereignty: The Power of Food’ topic of free presentation
“Food Sovereignty: The Power of Food,” a talk by Malia Smith, will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku.
Subjects include the power of food and its impact upon people’s ecological, socio-cultural and economic health. A plant-based pilot project in Waimanalo on Oahu being implemented as a community-based approach to health will also be discussed.
Smith graduated from Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu and received a bachelor’s and master’s in corporate communication, and a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California.
She is the owner/president of Sustainable Ideation LLC, which has been contracted to provide sustainability solutions, research and reports for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and the state Department of Agriculture.
She owns and operates ‘Ai Love Nalo store and wellness center in Waimanalo.
This is a free presentation by the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii; no reservations are needed.
