10 graduating seniors receive scholarships from MSDNV

Ten graduating seniors from various Maui high schools received $1,000 scholarships from the Maui’s Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans / Maui AJA Veterans Scholarship Program.

Ralph Murakami, a recipient of the scholarship in 1952, served as emcee at the June 23 check presentation ceremony and luncheon at Tante’s Island Cuisine in Kahului.

Accepting the scholarships were: Katherine Swor, Baldwin High School; Kayla Tuitele and Hunter Worth of Kamehameha Schools Maui; Ross Miyabuchi of King Kekaulike High School; Maybel Galace, Ruby O’Donnell and John Lloyd Supnet of Lahainaluna High School; and Tiffany Banggo, Jaymar Quedding and Trisha Mae Rapacon of Maui High School.

A total of 29 scholarship applications were received this year.

Maui’s Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans funds scholarships through its annual Chrysanthemum Festival.

Like the scholarships, this event was created by the Maui AJA Veterans Inc. more than 65 years go. It was turned over to the MSDNV in 2007.
