More than 200 children, from kindergarten to 5th grade, participated in the Grow Some Good school gardens’ taco cooking lesson Dec. 3 and 4 at Kihei Elementary School. Produce and herbs such papaya, parsley, jicama, lime, tomatoes, avocado and onions, which grow in the school garden, were incorporated into the ingredients they could choose from for their tacos.

The kids were encouraged to try at least one vegetable or herb they have not tried. For some, it was the first time they had jicama or even tacos. One of the kids called the tacos “magical tacos.”
