Flu vaccinations can be gotten at Safeway stores
Safeway pharmacies in Kahului and Kihei are providing flu vaccinations.
The flu shots are available during pharmacy business hours on a walk-in basis. No appointments are required.
The pharmacies also are able to provide flu shots to young people 14 to 17 years old, if they provide a prescription.
Safeway also offers off-site flu clinics for businesses, senior centers and nursing homes that want the convenience of having flu vaccinations provided at their locations. To arrange such a clinic, call Stan Leung at (925) 467-2630.
Pharmacies have a high-dose flu shot available for patients ages 65 years and older as well as doses with regular strength and those that are preservative-free.
Customers who get flu shots also will receive 10 percent grocery discount coupons.
Medical experts warn that this flu season could be the worst since the 2009 H1N1 outbreak.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months and older get their yearly flu vaccination as soon as the vaccine becomes available. The vaccine is particularly important for people with chronic health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
