Arrest in hammer attack
A 34-year-old Kihei woman was arrested for using a pointed hammer to hit a man in the back Saturday night at a homeless encampment on West Welakahao Road in Kihei, police said.
Amanda Blizzard was charged with first-degree assault. Her bail was set at $20,000.
The assault occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the brush area as the 32-year-old victim was bending over to pick up a piece of wood, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division. He said the victim reported that something hit him in the back and he turned to see Blizzard.
She ran but was arrested at 8:55 p.m. when Kihei patrol officers saw her walking on West Welakahao Road, Rego said.
