Plein air painting

First photo: Oregon artist Thomas Jefferson Kitts joins other competitors in the eighth annual Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational in capturing a sailing canoe and model Paige Sibayan on Wednesday afternoon during Pacific ‘O Sunset Paint Out at Kamehameha Iki Park in Lahaina. Under the watchful eyes of many art enthusiasts and onlookers, 25 plein air artists from Hawaii and the Mainland created original works of art. Some worked side by side, while others were off by themselves finding their own perspective of the sunset in the area near 505 Front Street.

Second photo: Kauai artist Jenifer Prince adds detail to her painting. The event began Saturday and continues from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, with the Pioneer Inn Lahaina Harbor Quick Draw and other events through the day, as well as Saturday and Sunday.
