Pump prices continue to rise
The average price of a gallon of unleaded regular in Wailuku keeps rising, hitting $4.39 a gallon this week, which was 11 cents more than last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch released Thursday.
The Wailuku price was 31 cents more than last month, but 4 cents lower than last year. It was the highest price in the state in the report.
The state average for regular unleaded increased to $4.32 per gallon, which was 7 cents more than last week, 24 cents more than last month and 7 cents more than on this day last year.
The report notes that Hawaii has the highest state average price in the nation, followed by California at $4.20 a gallon and New York at $4.01 a gallon.
Honolulu’s average price had a 6-cent bump up from last week to $4.26 a gallon for regular unleaded, up 23 cents from last month and up 14 cents from a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price was $4.31 per gallon, 3 cents more than last week, 23 cents more than last month and 13 cents less than this time a year ago.
AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch is a weekly snapshot of gas prices. Prices are derived from fleet vehicle credit card transactions at more than 100,000 stations around the country and are combined averages of the last card swipe of the previous day.
