Giving back through traditions
FIRST PHOTO: Los Angeles resident Lucas Stewart, 3, and his parents, Corey (left) and Silandia, make a Hawaiian bamboo trumpet Saturday during the 21st annual Celebration of the Arts. The three-day event drew residents and visitors alike to The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, to see displays of Hawaiian arts and traditions, including an awa ceremony and tool making. The celebration ends today.

Dalton Magno, organizer of the demonstration, said he taught his nephew the technique the day before and enjoys participating in the celebration. “As local people, we’re always looking to give back to the community and teach people Hawaiian traditions,” he said.
