Music institute accepting new students

The Institute of Hawaiian Music is accepting new students for next school year and will hold an information session at 4 p.m. today at the University of Hawaii Maui College, Room 105BCD in the Ka’a’ike building.

The session will provide information on the history of the program, entry and graduation requirements and financial aid.

The first auditions are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27. Priority for the auditions will be given to those who attended the information session.

The Institute of Hawaiian Music is a music mentorship program dedicated to the perpetuation and preservation of Hawaiian music. Formal university classes are supplemented with direct mentorship sessions led by professional Hawaiian musicians.

Students selected for the program will receive exclusive opportunities to receive personal training, guidance and knowledge through these relationships with performers, composers and other industry professionals.

Students who successfully complete the two-year program will receive an academic subject certificate in Hawaiian music.
