Family Earth Day event scheduled for Molokai

Molokai Earth Day will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Pauole Center in Kaunakakai.

The family event is being coordinated by The Nature Conservancy and will include food, educational displays and entertainment.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Divisions of Aquatic Resources and Forestry and Wildlife will be participating in the event, one of 10 Earth Day events the department is participating in statewide.

Aquatics staff will share information on the Hawaii Marine Recreational Fishing Survey, measurement guides, fishing regulations and more.

Forestry and wildlife staff will provide information on Project Learning Tree and landowner assistance programs along with samples of educational posters, coloring books and activities for kids.

Project Learning Tree is an environmental education program that may be adaptable for classroom lessons in math, language arts and social studies for kindergartners to 12th-graders and for other groups such as Scout troops. The program is offered in cooperation with Tri-Isle RC&D, the U.S. Forest Service, the American Forest Foundation and Project Learning Tree.
