Man arrested day after being released on bail

A day after being released on bail for a charge of threatening his girlfriend, a man was arrested again when he was found sleeping in a vacant apartment, police said.

Jeremy Caballero, 37, who gave no local address, was charged with first-degree burglary, following his arrest at 8:11 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment at Kahekili Terrace public housing in Wailuku, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.

He said the unit was supposed to be vacant after Caballero and his girlfriend had been evicted from it. Caballero had reportedly kicked in a door to enter the unit, Rego said.

On Tuesday, Caballero was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening of his girlfriend at the same unit, Rego said.

He reported that Caballero demanded his girlfriend leave and wielded a shank. He used tape and paper or plastic to make the shank, which resembled a knife, Rego said.

Caballero posted $1,000 bail to be released on the terroristic threatening charge.

After being arrested on the burglary charge, he posted $20,000 bail to be released, police records show.
