On display on receiving day
First photo: Art Maui receiving day volunteer Devon Mastrich adds a painting to the 35th annual event’s wide-ranging mix of entries Thursday afternoon in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Schaefer International Gallery. Receiving day is always a hectic but fascinating time to see what island artists have come up with. As usual, the artworks, numbering about 600, ranged from the eclectic to the sublime. Oahu juror Ron Kowalke is scheduled today to choose the pieces to be exhibited in this year’s show. About 20 percent of the submissions are selected to appear in the exhibition. An artists’ reception will be held April 14 in the gallery. The exhibit will be open to the general public daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April 15 to May 12.
