Two facing charges in alleged attack on man

Two homeless men were charged with assaulting another homeless man who suffered three broken ribs in the attack early Saturday outside a Kahului store, police said.

Bail was set at $5,000 each for Craig Petronick, 47, and Jordan Glum, 27. Both were charged with second-degree assault.

The assault occurred at 2:46 a.m. in front of Walmart in Kahului, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division. He said that the victim was near a bench outside the main entrance to the store when he was approached by two men who threatened to beat him up for kicking the girlfriend of one of the men.

The victim walked away to a nearby business but later returned to the bench area, Rego said. He said that the two suspects also returned. One suspect threw the victim to the ground before the two men began kicking and stomping on him, Rego said.

The 60-year-old victim reported the assault later Saturday morning after he was treated at the hospital for three broken ribs, Rego said.

He said police obtained surveillance video from Walmart showing the victim and his two assailants.
