Water service will be cut in Haiku Tuesday

Parts of Haiku along Kaupakalua Road will be without water from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The county Department of Water Supply is shutting off water service as part of a waterline replacement project on Kaupakalua Road from the Ulumalu Road intersection, or Five Corners, to about 400 feet east of Kawelo Road.

The capital improvement project will replace the undersized waterline with one that will be able to provide sufficient fire protection for the surrounding residents. The work is expected to be completed by July.

Tuesday’s disruption in water service will affect Kaupakalua Road from Ulumalu Road to Hana Highway, Holokai Road, Nolu Road, Burns Road, Maluaina Place, Ulumalu Road, Hoomaolo Place, Nuuanu Place, Kawelo Road, Kukuna Road, Haloa Road, Kekoanui Place, a portion of Hana Highway near the Kaupakalua Road intersection, Pono Road, Hale Pili Way, North Holokai Place and Kapuamilia Place.

Motorists are asked to use caution and follow instructions of workers directing traffic on Kaupakalua Road near the Kawelo Road intersection.

Customers are requested to call the 24-hour service line at 270-7633 only if a water emergency occurs.
