High-surf advisory remains in effect through tonight

A high-surf advisory for Maui County’s south-facing shores will continue through 6 p.m. today, the National Weather Service said Sunday afternoon.

Officials said that the high surf will continue through early this morning. Surf will remain elevated through midweek, the National Weather Service said.

The surf is expected to range from 6 to 10 feet and fall to 5 to 8 feet through today.

Swimmers should expect strong breaking waves and rip currents. Boaters are urged to check their moorings and to use caution when leaving or entering ports due to the large south swell.

Beachgoers are advised to travel in groups, be aware of their surroundings, never turn their backs on the ocean and know personal limits.
