Suspect in attack turns himself in
A third suspect has been arrested in an attack on a Kahului man who was struck with a rock and had a window of his vehicle shot out in the Piihana Farms area of Wailuku this month.
Police had been looking for Sheldon Sentinella, 24, of Wailuku, who turned himself in at 2:10 p.m. Friday at the Wailuku Police Station, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.
He said Sentinella is suspected of wielding a shotgun in the May 4 incident.
A Kahului man reported that he had driven a woman to the Piihana housing area at about 9 a.m. when he was approached by two men from a low-rider truck. He drove down Piihana Road to try to get away and was blocked in by the truck before two men approached the car, police said.
One man shot the back passenger window of the car and another used a rock to hit the driver’s side window, striking the driver and telling him to get out of the car and leave the key, police said. The driver managed to drive away.
Before the shooting, the woman who had been a passenger in the car got out and got into the truck, police said.
Sentinella was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal property damage, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $165,000.
During a preliminary hearing last week in Wailuku District Court, another suspect, Erath Kaihewalu, 20, of Waiehu was identified as the man who used the rock to strike the driver. Kaihewalu’s bail was set at $50,000 on charges of first-degree robbery, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, first-degree criminal property damage, keeping a loaded firearm in an improper place and first-degree terroristic threatening.
A judge ruled that there wasn’t enough evidence to support charges against Kyle Keahi, 26, of Wailuku. He had been identified as the driver of the truck and had been charged as an accomplice in the case.
