Chamber still needs $2,500 for fireworks

The Maui Chamber of Commerce is short of reaching its fundraising goal for next week’s 4th of July fireworks event in Lahaina.

“We just need several more companies (or individuals) to jump in and help out, and we’ll be there,” said Chamber President Pamela Tumpap.

She estimated Thursday afternoon that the event needs around $2,500 more to cover its expenses. This year’s budget is $49,450, or around $5,000 more than estimated because of increased costs, Tumpap said earlier this month.

The fireworks have been ordered, but still more funding is needed to pay for the full event, she added.

If the chamber fails to reach its fundraising goal, it will be hard to carry on the tradition of the fireworks year after year, Tumpap said, although she noted that the organization is “committed” to the event.

Checks may be payable to Maui Chamber of Commerce – 4th of July and mailed to 95 Mahalani St., Suite 22A, Wailuku 96793, or call 244-0081 for more information.
