Fire crews put out cane fires
Three unscheduled fires involving about 5 acres of sugar cane fields were extinguished Saturday night, fire officials said.
At 8:23 p.m., fire crews from Paia and Kahului responded to two fires approximately 150 feet apart off of Holomua Road, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. He said that the cause of the 2-acre fire is “suspicious due to the two fires occurring at the same time.”
Fire crews from Wailuku and Kahului responded to another fire at 9 p.m. in the area of Mokulele Highway near Kamaaina Road, Mainaga said. The 3-acre fire was extinguished and the cause is undetermined.
There were no connections between the two incidents and no injuries were reported.
