Repeat offender gets prison term for drugs
WAILUKU – A man who was on probation when he was arrested for drug offenses last year has been sentenced to a 10-year prison term.
As a repeat offender, Kingslow Kekaha-Cayaban, 22, of Kahului was ordered to serve at least one year and eight months in prison before being eligible for parole.
In his latest case, Kekaha-Cayaban had pleaded no contest to third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia and two counts of third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug in connection with his arrest on Nov. 28.
At the time, Kekaha-Cayaban was on probation in a 2009 case for first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia, third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
Second Circuit Judge Peter Cahill sentenced Kekaha-Cayaban on June 4.
In another hearing the same day, a 24-year-old Molokai man was sentenced to a five-year prison term for assaulting his girlfriend with a cooking pot last year.
Matthew Isnec of Kualapuu had pleaded no contest to second-degree assault.
According to court records, police were responding to a report of abuse occurring at the couple’s residence at about 7 a.m. Aug. 19 when officers stopped Isnec’s vehicle on Maunaloa and Kalae highways as he was driving his girlfriend to Molokai General Hospital. He had blood on his left hand, and she was covering her face with a towel, with blood leaking through.
During an argument, she apparently had thrown the small cooking pot at Isnec, missing his left foot, according to court records. Then he threw the pot at her, hitting her left forehead. She suffered a laceration on her left eye that required nine stitches, court records show.
Isnec will serve the prison term at the same time as five-year prison terms for Big Island cases. He was sentenced as a youthful offender to five-year prison terms for two counts of first-degree burglary and second-degree attempted arson, court records show.
