Students get the picture on local ingredients

SECOND PHOTO: Participants in the Huliau Youth Leaders Eat Local Video Project, Isaac Pahulu (from left), Hannah Shipman, Pokaika’i Kahaialii and Danielle Ferrer, help prepare a breakfast made entirely from local ingredients Thursday morning at Kolealea Farm in Haiku. The students plan to present the video they shot during their four-day immersion into locally grown foods at the 2013 Huliau Youth Environmental Film Festival scheduled to be held June 9 at Iao Theater in Wailuku. Under the guidance of Huliau founder and Executive Director Malia Cahill, the students also toured Maui farms and grocery stores to learn more about the food they eat. Pahulu and Kahaialii are Baldwin High students, while Shipman and Ferrer attend Seabury Hall. Also participating were Seabury’s Nyck Yashiro and 2013 Baldwin High graduate Ellie Bio (not pictured).
