Windsurfer rescued

A male windsurfer was airlifted after breaking his mast Saturday night at Kanaha Beach Park, fire officials said.

The 60-year-old visitor was reported missing by his wife who had not seen him for two hours said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. He said, due to the broken mast, the man could not swim to shore and was found floating on his board at 6:35 p.m. between the Wailuku-Kahului Wastewater Reclamation Facility and Maui Electric Co.’s Kahului power plant.

The man required no medical attention and his equipment was brought to shore by a fire team on personal watercraft.
