Chamber says it has funds to pay for fireworks

The Maui Chamber of Commerce has gathered enough pledges, raising around $49,450, to cover the cost of Thursday’s annual Fourth of July Fireworks celebration in Lahaina, the chamber said Monday.

The chamber continues to await $13,000 in pledges, according to an announcement by chamber President Pamela Tumpap. She asked those who have made pledges to send them in as soon as possible because the balance of what’s owed for the fireworks display is due Thursday, along with the payment of other bills.

The fireworks show will begin at 8 p.m. on a barge off of Front Street. The street will be closed to traffic from 4 to 9:30 p.m. from its intersections with Baker and Hotel streets.
