Fireworks to blame in brush fire behind school
Fireworks apparently ignited a 1-acre grass fire Tuesday afternoon behind Baldwin High School, fire officials said Wednesday morning.
Fireworks evidence has been collected by the Maui Police Department, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The fire was reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday and was extinguished at 4:55 p.m.
In another unrelated brush fire Tuesday, fire crews were able to extinguish a 1.5 acre fire in a kiawe stand off Waiinu Road across Maui Memorial Park in Kahului at 9:22 p.m. Tuesday. The fire was first reported around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The cause of the fire was undetermined after an investigation, fire officials said.
There were no reports of damage or injuries in both fires.
