Lahaina man critically hurt in crash

A 52-year-old Lahaina man was critically injured and three other people sustained minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Honoapiilani Highway on Sunday afternoon, according to a release from the Maui Police Department.

The incident occurred at 12:24 p.m. near Milepost 13 when the vehicle driven by the Lahaina man, who was traveling in the Maalaea direction on Honoapiilani Highway, crossed the centerline and sideswiped a Lahaina-bound vehicle with four occupants, according to police. The man’s vehicle then spun counterclockwise and collided with another Lahaina-bound vehicle.

The Lahaina man was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, according to police. A 19-year-old Kahului woman driving the third vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Two occupants of the second vehicle also sustained minor injuries.

Police reported that all of the people involved were wearing seat belts and airbags were deployed in all of the vehicles.
