Man arrested in shoplifting, burglary cases
Bail was set at $20,000 for a 28-year-old man arrested for shoplifting from three stores and burglarizing one business to steal a $1,500 surfboard, police said.
George Hardin, 28, who gave no local address, was charged with second-degree burglary and three counts of second-degree theft.
One theft occurred June 26 at the Quiksilver store in Whalers Village in Kaanapali, where items valued at $100 were stolen. Another shoplifting was reported July 7 at the Billabong store on Front Street in Lahaina, where items valued at more than $700 were taken, police said.
After Hardin was identified as the suspect in the thefts, patrol officers arrested him Thursday at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center in Kahului, police said.
Through additional investigation, officers identified Hardin as the person who stole fishing supplies valued at more than $300 from a Wailuku store, police said.
Hardin also was identified as being responsible for burglarizing a shed at Maui Surf Clinic on Front Street to steal the surfboard.
Police are continuing to investigate additional cases that Hardin may be involved in.
A 33-year-old Haiku woman who was with Hardin also was arrested and released pending further investigation.
