Keiki catch fish for a good cause

First Photo: Makawao resident Kawenamakamae Cabanting shows off a tilapia before weighing it Sunday during the fifth annual Maui Electric Co. Keiki Tilapia Fishing Tournament at the Kaanapali Golf Courses. The first-place winners for catching the largest fish in their age groups were: Treven Cabanilla, 2 to 5 years old, 315 grams; Keanu Ferguson, 6 to 12 years old, 430 grams; Koa Kualaau-Abbey, 13 to 18 years old, 163 grams.

Second Photo: The sold-out event drew 600 children and their families to Kaanapali for a morning of fun Sunday. The fundraiser generated money for the Maui United Way. In the last five years, the event has raised more than $50,000 for the agency, which supports more than three dozen island nonprofits that address basic needs, substance abuse prevention and treatment, nurturing and developing youth, caring for the elderly and disabled and strengthening families.
