Sirens to be tested Tuesday
Civil Defense’s monthly siren and emergency alert tests will sound off at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, the agency announced.
The blaring of sirens from the statewide outdoor warning system will be coordinated with the test of a live audio broadcast of the emergency alert system, officials said.
The siren test is a steady one-minute tone on all sirens. The steady tone is used to alert people to any emergency that may threaten life and property. Besides natural hazards, the system could be used for terrorist incidents or acts of war.
When the siren signal is sounded, tune to any local radio or television station for emergency information and instructions. Stations will explain what the sirens mean, as well as other related information.
To report siren malfunctions, call Maui Civil Defense at 270-7285. Disaster preparedness information is published on the front section of telephone directories.
