Brush fire burns quarter acre

A reported structure fire turned out to be a quarter-acre brush fire near the Lahaina Aquatic Center on Saturday, a fire official reported.

The blaze was reported at 3:29 p.m. as a possible structure fire in the area of Shaw and Mill streets. The caller reported that an old pump house structure was on fire, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. West Maui fire crews arrived on scene to find brush on fire adjacent to the abandoned structure.

The blaze was brought under control and extinguished about 30 minutes later, Mainaga said.

The case of the fire was undetermined.
