Foundation winner in $25k solar energy system contest

The La’a Kea Foundation has received a $25,000 solar energy system from Enphase Energy after winning the company’s “Mahalo Hawaii” Facebook contest.

Located on a 12-acre organic farm in upper Paia, the nonprofit group provides “meaningful work opportunities and residential options for adults with autism and intellectual disabilities,” according to an announcement.

The nonprofit group produced a video highlighting its need for solar energy and received the most votes to win the contest.

“Going solar is important,” said Donna Ting, president of the foundation’s board of directors. “It helps us be a more responsible steward of our resources and that is a good example for our residents and the community. The savings from the solar system will allow us to continue to focus on our mission of serving Maui residents with developmental disabilities.”
