Hawaii DOT announces projects; expect delays
The state Department of Transportation announced roadwork projects on state highways this week including a lane closure on Hana Highway in Kahului and in Honomanu in East Maui.
The work may create traffic delays. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving through work areas, to observe posted traffic signs and to allow for extra travel time.
The areas undergoing roadwork:
* A 24-hour lane closure on Hana Highway in the southbound direction between Kaahumanu Avenue and Haleakala Highway through Friday for roadway work.
* Single-lane closure on Hana Highway in the westbound direction at Milepost 14 between Wailua Road and Papaaea Road from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Friday for roadway work.
* Alternating single-lane closures on Kahekili Highway in both directions between Milepost 36 in the vicinity of Honokohau Bay and Milepost 42 in the vicinity of Papanahoa Gulch from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday for drainage cleaning. Traffic will be contraflowed using the remaining open lane.
* The lanes on Honoapiilani Highway have been shifted mauka between Front and Kai Hele Ku streets, fronting Launiupoko State Park until repairs are completed for ocean erosion damage that has undermined the shoulder lane foundation. Speed limits will be reduced approaching the work zone.
