Moku‘ula archaeologist to appear at two events

Paul Christiaan Klieger, an original director of Bishop Museum’s archaeological research at Moku’ula island and Mokuhinia pond in 1993, will be at a talk story at 6 p.m. Friday at the Na Aikane O Maui Cultural Center in Lahaina.

An anthropologist and ethnohistorian, Klieger also authored “Moku’ula: Maui’s Sacred Island” (1998, Bishop Museum Press). He will be signing books at the event.

Considered a leading authority on the restoration site, Klieger was an original director of the Bishop Museum’s archaeological research at the West Maui site, along with Boyd Dixon.

Copies of the Moku’ula book are available from the Friends of Moku’ula office, 505 Front St., Lahaina, for $30.

He also will be leading a walk around the Moku’ula restoration site at 1 p.m. Saturday.
