Man arrested in assault with bat
A Wailuku man was arrested for using a baseball bat to hit two other men during a confrontation over speeding in a Wailuku neighborhood Thursday night, police said.
Walter Setzco, 30, was released after posting $2,100 bail. He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and harassment.
The assaults occurred at about 11:40 p.m. Thursday after residents reported seeing Setzco speeding in the neighborhood around Kuhio Street as children were playing during a party, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.
When a 55-year-old man went to Setzco’s residence to confront him, Setzco grabbed a wooden bat and struck the other man, Rego said. Setzco also punched a woman before a 27-year-old man intervened and was struck multiple times on his arm and back, he said.
The woman wasn’t injured, but the 27-year-old suffered a fracture to his right forearm, Rego said.
All three men were treated at the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room and released.
The 55-year-old suffered bruises and swelling to his left forearm. Setzco was treated for a cut above his right eye.
