Sakamoto to provide update on UH-MC
University of Hawaii Maui College Chancellor Clyde M. Sakamoto will be speaking to the Rotary Club of Kahului at noon Monday at Cafe O’Lei at the Dunes at Maui Lani.
He will provide updates on happenings at the college.
Sakamoto has been chancellor since 2003 and served as provost of the college from 1990-2001, when it was Maui Community College. Between his provost-chancellor years, he was tasked with developing the baccalaureate potential of the UH community colleges.
Sakamoto received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UH and his doctorate from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
He was appointed dean of students in 1973 and dean of instruction in 1980 at MCC.
From 1984 to 1987, he served as director of the Office of International Services for the American Association of Community Colleges in Washington, D.C., and as a legislative aide to Sen. Daniel Inouye.
He currently serves on the Global Islands Network, Campus Technology Advisory, Maui Economic Development and Maui Arts & Cultural Center boards; the International Small Island Studies Association executive committee; and Global Education Commission.
