Branch sparks Molokai outage

A tree branch blown into electric lines on Molokai triggered a power outage Tuesday for 1,800 residents of Kualapuu, Kalae and the island’s east end, Maui Electric Co. reported Wednesday afternoon.

The outage started around 12:05 p.m. Tuesday when the tree branch brought down power lines on Kalae Highway, MECO said.

Power service was restored to 1,400 customers at 1:20 p.m. and the remaining customers saw their electricity return at 2:58 p.m. after repairs were completed, the utility said.
