Insurance premium comparisons available online
Hawaii residents can compare sample premiums for homeowner, motor vehicle and health insurance policies online by visiting the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Insurance Division website, cca.hawaii.gov/ins.
This is the first year that the division has published rate guides for policies offered by homeowner, motor vehicle and health insurance companies licensed in Hawaii.
Homeowners, condominium owners and renters may use the list of sample premium rates as a guide to see what their company is charging compared to its competitors. The guide also provides explanations about different types of coverage.
Motor vehicle owners may use the guide to compare policies for each island, for drivers with clear records and for drivers with one speeding conviction and for a basic 2012 Honda Accord LX, four-door sedan, which consumers can use as a guide when shopping.
Individuals and small businesses also may use the guide as a tool to compare premiums offered by Hawaii Medical Services Association, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii and the Hawaii Health Connector, a facet of the 2014 Affordable Care Act.
