Woman falls on trail, is airlifted to safety

A 60-year-old woman was airlifted from the Jaws lookout in the Peahi area on Saturday after she slipped on a trail and fractured her ankle, a fire official said.

Fire crews from Paia and Kahului as well as the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter responded to the 12:41 p.m. call, according to Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

The Maui woman suffered a compound fracture to her right ankle and was stabilized by rescuers before being airlifted to an area near Hana Highway.

She was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition, Mainaga said.
