Help sought in bank robbery probe
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 40-year-old man wanted for questioning in the investigation of a bank robbery Sunday at the Kihei branch of Bank of Hawaii in the Safeway store.
Kristopher Michael Sharrott also is being sought on an outstanding bench warrant, police said.
The bank robbery occurred at 1:57 p.m. when a man approached a teller with a note demanding money, police said.
After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the man fled, police said.
On Tuesday morning, police Criminal Investigation Division detectives and Crime Reduction Unit officers executed a warrant at Sharrott’s residence in Pukalani. Sharrott wasn’t at the home, but police reported finding evidence linking him to the bank robbery in Kihei.
Police also reported finding a vehicle that had been stolen Feb. 14 from the Harley-Davidson store in Kahului. The vehicle, an Audi, was sprayed with black primer, police said, and witnesses confirmed that Sharrott had been in possession of the vehicle and was seen spray-painting it.
Police recovered the Audi, impounding it along with Sharrott’s truck and another vehicle.
Anyone who has information on Sharrott’s whereabouts is asked to call Maui Crime Stoppers at 242-6966 or police dispatch at 244-6400.
