Tank readied for sweet stuff

They said the renovation project also includes installing a new roof atop the tank. In the Alexander & Baldwin fourth quarter and annual report released last week, A&B reported lower molasses sales due to the molasses spill in Honolulu Harbor in September that led Matson to halt shipments to the Mainland. Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co., a subsidiary of A&B, began alternatively shipping molasses to Asia, which “impacted molasses sales and margins,” said a company spokesperson.

Molasses won’t be produced until HC&S restarts the mill next month, and the company has not finalized new plans for molasses shipments, the spokesperson said.
