Attempted murder charge in alleged attack on man with hammer

A Kahului man is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with an attack with a hammer last week that left another man with two skull fractures.

Lomae Lomae, 53, is being held in lieu of $115,000 bail at the Maui Community Correctional Center.

He was originally charged with first-degree assault for the attack that occurred at 1:45 a.m. March 10.

Police said Lomae entered his ex-girlfriend’s apartment at Luana Gardens without permission and found her sleeping with another man.

Lomae “went into a jealous rage and struck (the other man) in the head with the hammer that he brought with him,” according to an affidavit filed in court to support charges against Lomae.

The victim was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. He sustained two skull fractures and a subdural hematoma, which a doctor said could have resulted in death.

The victim was released from the hospital and testified at a preliminary hearing last week for Lomae.

At the hearing, probable cause was found to support charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree burglary against Lomae.

He is scheduled to be arraigned March 27 in 2nd Circuit Court.

Lomae was ordered to stay away from his ex-girlfriend and the victim, as well as Luana Gardens, Building A at Harbor Lights Condominium and Maui Tropical Plantation.
