Man critical, was found beaten in Kihei
A 44-year-old Kihei man remained hospitalized in critical condition after he was found beaten and unconscious Saturday night in Kalama Park, police said.
The incident was reported at 9:40 p.m. when Kihei patrol officers responding to another incident at Kihei Kalama Village were approached by a man who reported a man was being beaten in a fight in the park across the street, said Lt. David Silva of the Kihei Criminal Investigation Division.
He said officers found the 44-year-old man alone and unconscious on the ground next to the pavilion.
Medics were called and transported the man in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center. The man suffered numerous injuries and remained hospitalized Monday in the intensive-care unit, Silva said.
Police detectives and an evidence specialist responded to Kalama Park as part of the investigation.
