Rock & Brews now open for business
Rock & Brews Paia opened its doors Wednesday night at its newest location along Hana Highway in Paia town, according to a news release from the company.
The rock-themed restaurant chain was co-founded by rock legends Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS. It serves American comfort food as well as “local favorites” and has a full bar.
The restaurant held its grand opening Jan. 26, despite legal challenges to the project. The Maui Tomorrow Foundation and others maintained that a full special management area permit was needed to garner a full public review with a vote by the Maui Planning Commission.
Instead, Maui County Planning Director Will Spence granted the project an administrative minor SMA, based on the cost of the project.
The Maui Planning Commission late last month deferred action for a second time on a proposed final decision to reject appeals challenging permits for Rock & Brews. Maui Tomorrow Executive Director Irene Bowie said last week that lawyers were continuing to work on an amicable settlement to the dispute.
In addition to its Paia location, Rock & Brews has locations in Southern California and Los Cabos, Mexico. The Paia restaurant features art by local artists and works showing Hawaii’s history and culture.
The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
