King Kekaulike set to host a spring concert
King Kekaulike High School will host a spring concert Tuesday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, featuring composer and conductor Robert Spittal and jazz trumpeter Michael Lenke.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Spittal is an American conductor and composer of music for band, orchestra, chamber ensembles and electronic media, according to an announcement. He is a music professor at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.
Lenke has played with the U.S. Army and Air Force bands, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Bob Hope and Sherman Andres. He is a resident of Spokane, where he’s known as a trumpet soloist, vocalist, studio musician and clinician. He’s a trumpet instructor at Gonzaga University and surrounding high schools.
