Two tangled up in love
FIRST PHOTO: Ruthie and Joe Ferreira cut a rug to the music of Angel E Sus Companeros on Saturday during the St. Joseph Feast in Makawao. The Ferreiras said they are ready to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary this September. Dancing was a big part of their lives even before they were married at St. Rita’s Church in Haiku in 1955, and it continues to this day. “We used to follow the Molina Band all around,” Joe said. Ruthie said that dancing is a key to a happy marriage. “That and kung fu fighting,” Joe quipped with a laugh that earned him a playful sock on the arm from his bride.
SECOND PHOTO: St. Joseph preschooler Charley Hennessey tosses a ring and tries to win a Coke along with dad Marty (Dread) Hennessey on Saturday afternoon. Marty said he had already put in a shift at the booth and it was now wife Tanja’s turn. He is scheduled to perform in the entertainment tent today starting at 3 p.m. The annual feast at St. Joseph Church continues today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
