Marking a century of dance and worship

First Photo: Hundreds attended Wailuku Jodo Mission’s Centennial Obon Festival on Friday night. The celebration began with a service for Hatsu Bon (first obon) families and a memorial to honor all the ancestors of past members and supporters. Professional Kendama players, taiko drummers and fresh andagi helped mark the 100-year event, which included obon dancing. The mission plans to hold its centennial celebration in October.
