Bal a regents vice chair
Eugene Bal III of Maui was elected Thursday to one of two vice chairperson positions on the University of Hawaii Board of Regents.
The chairman will be Randolph G. Moore of Honolulu; the other vice chairperson is Jan Naoe Sullivan of Honolulu.
Moore replaces John C. Holzman as chairman, and Sullivan and Bal replace James Lee and Saedene Ota of Maui as vice chairpersons.
Their terms are for one year.
Moore joined the board in 2013 and is a retired business executive with Castle and Cooke and Molokai and Kaneohe ranches and a middle school teacher and Department of Education administrator. He graduated from Punahou School, Swarthmore College and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Bal is the former executive director of the Maui High Performance Computing Center and a retired Navy officer with more than 40 years of experience in leadership roles. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and earned a Master of Science degree from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Sullivan is the chief operating officer of Hawaii technology firm Oceanit, managing activities such as early-stage research and development, startup company formation and capitalization. She is a graduate of the University Laboratory School on Oahu, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Colorado and a law degree from the University of Hawaii-Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
