Event opportunity to meet candidates
The Kihei Community Association will be hearing from challengers in two state legislative races and the Maui County Council’s South Maui residency seat at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kihei Charter Middle School at 41 E. Lipoa St.
Speaking will be John Fitzpatrick, Robin Knox and Jerome Metcalfe, who are running against incumbent Council Member Don Couch. The race is nonpartisan.
Also addressing the crowd will be Terez Amato, who is in a Democratic primary and vying to unseat incumbent state Sen. Roz Baker for the District 6 seat representing South and West Maui.
Also speaking will be Marie Minichino, who is challenging incumbent Kaniela Ing in the Democratic primary for the state House District 11, representing South Maui.
At the June association meeting, the incumbents were allowed to address the group.
Participants may arrive at 6 p.m. for refreshments and to chat with the candidates.
